We hope you will share in the campus experience during Family Weekend! This is your chance to tour the Medical School, hear from faculty members, and spend some time with your student.

Friday, October 25

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Medical School Check-In

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Support Network: Guiding Students Through the Med School Experience

Location: The Warren Alpert Medical School, Lecture Hall 160, 222 Richmond Street

Parents and families are an integral part of the Brown medical community, but busy students may not always have time to fill in family members on what’s happening in their lives. Join us to hear from Medical School leadership and have your questions answered.

Saturday, October 26 

9:00 am - 9:55 am Movement for Life: Mobility and Stretching for Health

Location: TBD

Whether you're a student or family member, a patient or physician, join us for an interactive fitness event designed to promote lifelong wellness through the principles of functional mobility. Participants will learn techniques that are beneficial for their own health but also valuable for those working in healthcare settings and supporting patient mobility and recovery.

9:00 am - 11:00 am Legorreta Cancer Center Luminaria Fundraiser

Location: The College Green

Brown is working to improve cancer care in Rhode Island and across the world through research and treatment. Support the Center and dedicate a luminaria in honor of a loved one affected by cancer by purchasing a candle, sharing a message, and being part of a meaningful display of hope.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm Faculty Research Forum | Planetary Health: Tackling Emerging Infectious Diseases and Extreme Heat

Location: The Warren Alpert Medical School, Lecture Hall 160, 222 Richmond Street

Will a warmer world be a sicker world? What is it about New England that supports the proliferation of Lyme Disease? How are wildlife trade, exotic pets and species invasions contributors to emerging diseases like COVID-19? Dr. Kate Smith, Senior Associate Dean for Biology and Curricular Affairs, Associate Professor of Medical Science, and Dr. Kyle Martin, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, will discuss their research around these questions and provide an overview of planetary health opportunities for students at the Warren Alpert Medical School.

12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Medical and PLME Family Lunch

Location: The Warren Alpert Medical School, The Herbert M. Kaplan Atrium, 222 Richmond Street

Enjoy a light lunch spread while getting to know other families and some of the medical faculty. Members of the Medical Parents Committee will be on hand to talk about the volunteer opportunities for parent engagement.

2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Mini Med School

Location: Meet at The Warren Alpert Medical School, The Herbert M. Kaplan Atrium, 222 Richmond Street

Follow in the footsteps of a first-year medical student! Families will be split into three cohorts to experience “Medical School” by way of three interactive sessions: a tour of the Anatomy lab, a demonstration of the Clinical Skills course, and an "Outside the Classroom" panel. This 3-part tour, led by faculty and current medical students, gives an insider’s look at life at The Warren Alpert Medical School.

All participants in Family Weekend are considered limited-duration visitors to campus and must abide by Brown’s COVID-19 Campus Safety Policy, including the mask wearing requirements in place at the time of Family Weekend.

Parking and Accommodations

Parking at the Warren Alpert Medical School (222 Richmond St.)

Metered spaces are available on a number of streets near the medical school building, including Richmond Street, Elm Street and Chestnut Street. Please adhere to posted signs regarding allowable hours and other parking limitations, and note that meters accept credit cards and quarters only.

Parking is available for a fee until 11 p.m. at the garage adjacent to the Medical School building on Friday.

Yes! The Medical Family Weekend shuttle schedule for the weekend is: 

Friday (Noon - 7 p.m.) and Saturday (7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
The first departure from the Medical School is at Noon on Friday and at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday
Medical School Stop: 222 Richmond Street
Campus Stop: The Gates, 10 Prospect Street
20-minute loop: 

  • leaves Medical School at 00 mins 20 mins, and 40 mins past the hour
  • leaves the Gates at 10 mins, 30 mins, and 50 mins past the hour
