Honors

Shayla Durfey, Pediatrics, received the 2025 Marshall Klaus Health Services Research Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, for her project, “Identifying Barriers and Facilitators to Enhancing Mental Health Supports for Spanish-Speaking Parents in the NICU.” The $5000 award was sponsored by Beth Israel Deaconess Department of Neonatology Foundation. 

Alexander Prael, medical student, received a 2025 AΩA Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship for his project “Use of Systemic Inflammatory Markers to Replace Chest Radiography in Clinical Decision Making for Adolescents with Tuberculosis.”

Grants

Lalit Beura, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, received $40,000 for “CFAR Pilot Project: Deciphering Microbiome-Epithelial-Immune Interactions in the Vaginal Mucosa: Implications for HIV Susceptibility,” a subaward through Miriam Hospital from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.                                        

Arthur R. Salomon, Molecular, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry (MCB), received $72,481 for “Unmasking the immunomodulatory roles of CD7 signaling,” a subaward through the   University of Utah from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.  

Jon D. Witman, Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology, received $13,200 for “Logistics Support for Marine Heatwave and Kelp Forest Monitoring on Cashes Ledge, Gulf of Maine” from the Conservation Law Foundation      .
