Mukesh Jain to take on additional role as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs

Dear Division of Biology and Medicine Community,

I’m pleased to share that Mukesh Jain, Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences, has been appointed to the role of Senior Vice President for Health Affairs. He will serve in this role, effective immediately, while maintaining his positions as dean, as well as the Frank L. Day Professor of Biology, and professor of molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry.

Since joining Brown in March 2022, Mukesh has excelled in his strategic leadership of biological sciences, biomedical research and medical education at Brown. He has also been an effective ambassador to our hospital system partners and physician groups. He will build on this critical work in his new role, which recognizes the growing importance and complexity of academic medicine and health sciences at Brown, and in Rhode Island and across the region.

As Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, Mukesh will oversee initiatives and programs that involve Brown faculty and our hospital system partners and affiliates; lead academic discussions and arrangements regarding clinical, research, and teaching activities involving Brown and our hospital partners and affiliates; and provide strategic vision within life sciences at Brown and in collaboration with hospital partners to advance Providence as a center for biotech research and innovation. In addition, Mukesh will serve as chair of the Joint Executive Committee for the aligned research collaboration with Lifespan and Care New England announced last month. He will also serve as the University’s representative on health system and affiliate boards and searches, as well as in discussions regarding physician group alignment.

Mukesh will report to the President in his capacity as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, and will continue to report to the Provost in his role of Dean of the Medicine and Biological Sciences.

Please join me in congratulating Mukesh as he takes on this new role.

Sincerely,

Christina H. Paxson
President
